It started as a university exercise - a photo collage on open and closed composition. I liked it enough to carry the subject on by myself. Concrete, steel and wire mesh say keep out on their own, so getting onto the site meant sneaking in. The photos were raw, and the main actors were the concrete-and-steel ribbing, the structures and the concrete walls. I turned them into a heat map: I dressed the raw grey site in warm, cocktail colours - the total opposite of them.
A building site is a space that has not been switched on yet. Structure with no function, ramps and barriers with nobody on them. False colour takes away the last thing holding it down - daylight - and it stops being a building site near my town and starts looking like a level in a game I am not allowed to walk through.
The exercise was about open and closed composition. Some frames let the structure run out past the edge, others box it in - and that is what I picked them on.
